Gloriously Arresting Cloudscapes

Bows and flows of angel hair

and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere,
i’ve looked at cloud that way.
But now they only block the sun,
they rain and snow on everyone.
So many things i would have done
but clouds got in my way.
I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions i recall.
I really don’t know clouds at all.
Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now

I’ve always had a passion for clouds. As a child I would lie on my back in the grass for hours watching the clouds drift across the sky. Some things never change. The enchanting, curious, even mysterious nature of clouds and the way they can transform the entire sky, as well as the tone of a day, in mere moments still fascinates me no end. Gently flowing clouds taking one into a different dimension away from the hustle bustle of daily life .the different shapes colours, textures, sizes are really fascinating.

Nature’s beauty is astonishing. It’s a pity we often fail to stop and take note of simple things like this, once in a while.

Of all the weather phenomena, clouds are among the most fascinating. From the silky filaments to high altitude cirrus to the towering, threatening mass of storm-bearing cumulonimbus, clouds are as varied as the weather itself. Lenticular clouds are simply one more example of the beauty and complexity. I saw some amazing pictures of these clouds for the first time during my image search on net and was completely mesmerized.Sharing the links with you all..Do have a look at the amazing beauty of the sky.

Mammatus, Lenticular & Other Extreme Clouds

Though scientifically clouds have been named according to there shape and altitude on which they form like Cumulus, Stratus, and Cirrus, but I love to find my own names for them .the fluffy ones like soft cotton ones floating slowly on a clear blue sky, some fleecy ones and the lovely pink cotton candy clouds of the early sunrise while others dark and dense taking over the entire sky ..
Then there are spectacular sunsets and sunrise clouds with such a display of colors that one can watch hours together and still not have enough. Layers after layers of magnificent play of light and dark. With colors ranging from shades of red ,crimson, purple ,brown ,grey, silver and golden which only the master painter can paint, melting down in the sky ,the effect is mesmerizing . .

The dark thunder clouds illuminated by the lightning, the sun breaking through the dense dark clouds, the full moon emerging from behind the night clouds, the billowing clouds over the snow caped mountains, the misty clouds that descend in the valley are sights one can never forget. Even the storm clouds are awesome .the magnificent color display and the sheer beauty of those clouds can not be explained in words..

I remember during my train journeys I used to look outside the window and try to figure out shapes in the clouds some times a rabbit or an owl at others a sleeping woman or a crooked nosed witch. Now the sky has got smaller in the city and through the trees and the high rise buildings I search for the lovely clouds, sitting quietly lost in time and space.

Another thing I loved to do was to paint clouds …a slight change in colour and the whole mood of the picture got changed. It was a joy to make cotton ball fantasies out of those clouds. Miss that today.

The clouds I saw from the airplane window were like a complete fantasy picture and I would never forget those images but I still prefer to watch them from the ground.
The best journey through clouds which I remember is, from Khajjiar to Dharamshala ,a non significant road slicing through the mountains submerged completely under rain clouds .visibility almost zero ..We actually just drove where the road took us ,praying the next bend would not make us plunge into the deep valley .The height was approx .9000feet above sea level ..It was raining heavily and with hair pin bends and nothing in sight we just drove on captivated by the scintillating beauty of the place..
