Ten Day You Challenge – Post 1 Ten Secrets

I was magically pulled to this challenge which is floating in the Blogosphere and the more posts I read the more I wanted to do it. The fun started at Priti’s Blog and then I saw many of my friends getting caught in its enticing web.

Trust me this tough but then I love challenges. So here we go with the 10 secrets

Ten Secrets

1. When I was seven years old it tugged at my heart that we never distributed sweets in the school for birthdays. It seemed so unfair so I took 100 Rs. from home and early morning at 6:45 managed to visit a local mithai shop bought Jalebies and carried them to school with a song in my heart. With pride and joy I told the flabbergasted onlookers than it was my birthday(it wasn’t). There was such a joy in distributing jalebies and fellow students had a blast but the fun ended when the principal who knew mom rang her and called her to school. What happened next made me hate Birthdays as well as jalebies. (just kidding :p I love jalebies but can’t eat one without crimson color rising to my cheeks ) . ( some 38 years ago that was hell lot of jalebies we got in 100bucks) :D

2.  I saw the night show of Exorcist with my cousin and that too I was under age and tickets were bought in black. The family had no idea where we had gone. We watched the entire flick with not more than ten people for company in the entire hall.

3. I am petrified of rats. I can stand any creäture but rats and those pink little mice are complete turn off. (Though I loved Stuart Little)

4. I hate people who take relationships for granted.  People who use words like “sorry” without meaning anything.

5. A virtual something called ” our whatever”( Shhhh its a secret ok) :p . It’s a relationship which has no name. (or maybe it has) :P Sometimes love comes from most unexpected places :P even a long lasting friendship. Now you may ask how is it possible? rubbish .  Well it is there and am happy. Sometimes we indulge there are some secrets which have no answers and its better this way. ;) But now that its out :P I want to know what this “whatever” is. Is ” someone” reading ?

6. I love Marmite  and have a  weird craving for odd food combos . Loved Jam biscuits dipped in a bowl of flowing hot vanilla custard. Called it Roly poly for some reason and gave them to my sons too when they were small.  Also Maggie with Tabasco sauce between two slices of white bread. Crushed Papad or bhujia on buttered bread(white)

7. I hate to drink plain milk and as a kid I made it a point to throw it away as quickly as it reached me. The very sight of malai on it made me puke. That’s another thing that freshly boiled milk is awesome and I can have it once in a while. (I was caught red-handed once and was punished to live on milk diet for two days just to teach me not to waste food. I learned it the hard way trust me.

8. I am extremely fond of speed and all kind of adventure sports. I keep dreaming of doing all the possible thrilling stuff and till sometime back I was terrified of flying in an aircraft and my heart would race faster than the speeding vehicle I was siting in. It still does at times , depends on who is driving :p

9. I love spooky stuff. Ghosts, dark creatures, magic, spells excite me. I have been to a cemetery at night and trust me I want to spend a night there or in any so-called haunted place at least once in my life . I did planchat in college hostel once and it went out of control. It is one experience I wont forget. I want to learn some dark art.

10. I love street food and local regional cuisine and detest five-star culture. Formal eating makes me uncomfortable. There is more joy in sucking the juicy pulp of mangoes than cutting in cubes and eating with fork or spoon. Similarly to lick the Shrikand from the bowl or eat dal chawal with hand is more satisfying than using spoon and fork.

My Sins Against Gender Stereotypes: Ritu’s Tag

Ritu of  WEAVING A WEB tagged me to do this very interesting post. Must thank IHM also for always thinking out of the box.

Here is what the Indian Homemaker and Phonenixritu say:

If you are a woman

Have you ever wanted something that is considered ‘manly’ ? Like a basketball, a cell phone, a dog, a camera or a new laptop? A new car or motor bike? Ever wanted to be a pilot? A doctor or not a nurse? And the manliest want of them all – The remote! ;)

As a kid did you enjoy playing with a bat and a ball?

There was a time when books were considered ‘manly’, women authors had to pretend to be men – would you say books are still rather manly – women should want to embroider and crochet?

If you are a man

Have you ever wanted something that only women are supposed to want – like bags, shoes, clothes, creams, perfumes, babies, flowers? A peaceful home and a happy family? Have you ever been afraid of the dark or of insects?

As a kid did you ever want to play ‘teacher-teacher’, cooking or did you like playing with a doll? Have you ever enjoyed cooking? Bought something in pink? Loved chocolates?

So here’s a tag – Please list at least ten things you have ever wanted or done which your gender is not supposed to.

The tag is called ‘My Sins against Gender-Stereotypes’. And you must tag twelve blogging friends

Here is my list of ten things.

1. I hate jewelery (except my small silver ear rings) and all those delicate womanly footwear . Prefer tough sandals, boots, sports shoes, sneakers etc.

2. I hate it when people tell me to dress up like a ” married woman” . I feel like an alien. For me denim and tees, Bermudas and pants are just fine. love to wear men’s shirts teamed with tees. I always check the men’s section for great selections in clothes. Black being my favorite color.

3. I love football, played basketball, marbles, gilli danda, did skids and other stunts on the bicycle as a teenage girl. Love to read about cars , bikes etc. I did my first trek at the age of 13 with YHAI’s Himalayan trekking group.

4. Good girls don’t whistle .. But I do ;) Does it make me a bad girl ? :D

5.  I love Snakes, Spiders, Raptors. I have handled snakes and find them absolutely facinating… and also love the Dark. Ghost, spirits and all the other creatures of the dark world. Have walked down in a cemetery at night during a visit to the hills. Night does not scare me.

6. I love chocolates for more than one reason but does it make me womanly ? Nah… Try a dark bitter liquor filled one or an orange flavor while you watch a horror or sci-fi movie in the dead of the night. Maybe I am just the perfect blend. :)

7. Girls do not climb trees, run about with their skirt flying, have fist fights with boys, or play pranks . That was an unsaid rule when I was a teenager . Rules are meant to be broken :D I think lazing on  thick branch or hanging from a Tyre attached to a rope tied to the branch is  a bliss. Even running along rolling a  cycle Tyre with a stick along with the boys was great fun.

8. My boys think that a mom like me is born ones in a thousand years. LOL I take part in all their adventures.. well almost all of them that are possible at my age :D . My Hubby thinks he should have read the finer prints before saying I DO :D

9. I can do most of the repair work, electrical or otherwise around the house.

10. My MIL thinks that a woman’s job is to look after husband, kids and home. Letting men into the kitchen is a sin I commit and I WILL ROT IN THE FIRES OF HELL for dressing up and behaving in a most unusual fashion. Having drinks, wearing ” odd clothes”, listing to  ” angrejee janee jinka na sar hai na pair”, and not looking like a DIL and making men of the house my ” slaves”. My boys and I love to experiment with cuisine so does my hubby when the beastly shadow of his ma is not lurking anywhere around. ( She would have a heart attack if she knew I smoked pot ones or twice and still steal ciggies  and try to make the smoke rings I could never make. :) LOL

She hurts my feelings and as far as fires of hell go I am the beloved daughter of satan so hell is my home sweet home.

Strange that what we term as sins against the gender stereotypes are mostly considered as sins by our own gender and not by the other.

All those who find this interesting  are tagged . Please leave the link in the comment section if you do the tag . I will be delighted to read your list of sins.

Beautiful Blogger :) and Seven Beautiful Things – A Tag and Award

UmaS Tagged me and gave me this beautiful award. Thank you Uma , your token of love is very precious to me. Love and hugs.

It is a lovely feeling when  a fellow blogger and a friend sends across a little bundle of joy across so many miles.

The award has a Tag too .

So here it goes:

7 things I find to be beautiful around me :

seven things were difficult to pick. I love everything around me.

1. I love the  colors, fragrances, smells, sounds  that each season splashes so beautifully around us. The amazing variety of winter blooms, the yellow and reds of summer, the brown bare trees and the showers of golden yellow leaves of autumn , the shades of soothing greens in the rains and much more. Also the endless sky where each moment unfolds  a poetry painted in various hues by nature. The smell of wet earth after the first summer rain and the flashes of lighting and thunder and all the drama in the sky.

2. Music- When I listen to the temple bells on a beautiful morning in a sleepy little town in the hills it makes me feel calm from within. Music heals and anything which is not noise , which touches my soul from M.S.Subbulaxmi’s ragas to Pt. Jasraj or Neil Diamond and Talat Mehmood and Hemant Kumar , I love it all. On days when I want life to be extra beautiful I go for Clarinet, flute, Saxophone, even Arabian music  adds so much more to my life in may a ways.

( I also love to get charges with the new found music that my boys have introduced me to . Each melody , each note is a new discovery)

3.  Children -  These Little people are the mosr treasurred gifts that the universe has given us. I love to just watch them blossom. Every moment, every expression, thought, word, gesture is worth it. They live in their own world of fantacy , untouched, unspoilt  just like  wild flowers . I call the moment spent with these cherubs ” my moments of rejuvination”

4.  Books- Be it my Lady Bird series or the volumes of classics in Hindi and English I love to be surrounded by books. One reason I visit book stores and libraries is to inhale that musty , intoxicating smell of old books. The touch of those yellow pages and the faded covers. I love to read and I think we all have our special collectios of books. I have some very old collector’s first editions which were handed down to me by mom and my grandfather and are priceless.

4. Chocolate – Oh , I know  you all know my love for chocolate. Ranging from bitter dark to flavoured and liquir filled, chocolates make life worth living. Give me a chocolate and a book and I am happy woman. I leave you with a picture and want you to let your imagination go wild. :) What more can I say. The drool pool near by feet and the dreamy , misty eyes are not helping me to write more. will be back shortly. ;)

5. Silence – Now this may come as a surprise to you but have you ever experience the beauty of the silent night under the starlit sky lying on dewy grass watching the clouds drift aimlessly or see the play of moonlite, maybe just close the eyes and breath easy ? I find that blissfully beautiful . Have you ever stood at the edge of a rock jutting out into the valley watching the  sun melt into an exquisite molten red and gold or just sat with eyes closed absolutely quite ? I bet if you do any of it you will know why I love silence so much .

6. My mom – When I look at her face I get a feeling I can not describe. Is it the old age, the spirit of life, the soft understanding eyes , the assurance , love and enrgy that flows all the time from her to me ? What is it ? I guess you all know the answers. She is beautiful within and has made my life glow with inner beauty. That’s ma.

7. Life – Life is beautiful if we open unconditionally to it. To its pains and sorrows , to its joys and beauty. Living is  tough job , most people just exisit and forget to see and feel the beauty around them, in them. I always feel that in all our unending efforts to ” live” we actually miss out on : Life” I don’t know if I make sense  but If any of you even vaguely understand what I mam sayin , it will be worth it.

I am supposed to

1) Thank the person who gave you the award
2) Paste the award on your blog
3) Link the person who nominated you for the award
4) Share 7 things you find to be beautiful around you
5) Nominate 7 bloggers or more

I think it is a tag for all the beautiful people out there. So please accept the award friends and do the tag. love and hugs.

Top Ten Hindi Movie Lines

1. Deewar (1975) Is one of Amitab Bachchan’s best movies and my all time fovorite. The movie had memorable dialouge delivery and deadly perforamces by the leading cast.

Shashi kapoor to Amitabh when he wants him to sign , Haan, main sign karoonga, lekin main akele sign nahin karoonga, main sabse pehle sign nahin karoonga. Jao pehle us aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne mera baap ko chor kaha tha; pehle us aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne meri maa ko gali deke naukri se nikal diya tha; pehle us aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne mere haath pe ye leekh diya tha..ye.. Uske BAAD, us ke baad, mere bhai, tum jahan kahoge main wahan sign kar doonga.”

2. Anand

Rajesh Khanna to Amitabh, “

Babumoshai, zindagi aur maut uparwale ke hath hai jahapana, jise na aap badalsakte hai na mein. hum sab to rangmanch ki katputlia hai, jiski door uparwale ke haath bandhi hai kab kaun kaise uthega ye koi nahi janta

Anand has been one of my favorite movies and each dialogue is power packed. The one above is the path breaking one. One of the best.

3. Waqt

Raj Kumar had a unique style of dialogue delivery, there are many of his famous lines which I like  but this one from Waqt is best.

Yeh bachchon ke khelne kee cheez nahin, haath kat jaye to khoon nikal aata hai”

4. Vishwanath

Shatrughan Sinha‘s dialogues are evergreen and this one from Vishwanath is my favorite since childhood.

Jali ko aag kahte hain, bujhi ko raakh kahte hain, jis raakh se barood bane usey Vishwanath kahte hain.

5.Trishul

Amitabh,

“Sahi baat sahi waqt pe kiya jaye to uska maza hi kuch aur hai, Aur main sahi waqt ka intezaar karta hoon.

6. fanaa

Kajol,

“Tere dil mein meri saanson ko Panaah mil jaaye, teri ishq mein meri jaan Fanaa ho jaaye !

7. Pakeeza

Another awesome line from Raj Kumar in Pakeeza. He says to Meena Kumari,”Pakeezah: “Appke pare bahut khoobsurat hain, inhe zameen par mat rakhiyega , maile ho jaayenge”

8.  Om Shanti Om

I did not like Om Shanti Om but I love this dialogue

seems like it came straight from ” The Monk who sold his ferrari”

9. Rang De Basanti

I loved Amir as DJ in RDB, the movies was worth a second watch and the dialogues worth remembering.

DJ ( Amir Khan) to Kakke

oye kakay :) …..lagta hai payaar ho gaya mainoo 8)…..tujay khabhi bataya nai yaar…..pen di taki dil main bas gai hai yaar O0…..bas bachoon ki fikar ho rahi hai yaar…..pata nai pen day takay goray hoon gay ya kalay .”

10.  Zanjeer

All time hit and a powerhouse of heart stopping dialogues . here is one of my favorites Pliss pay Attantion :D

Amitabh, “Jab tak baithne ko na kaha jaye, khade raho! Yeh Police station hai tumhare baap ka ghar nahi!

25 Random things about me: A Tag for Friends

Some days are dull, really dull, I mean they are just “do not remember this day ever ” kind of days. Today is such a day. Hot, Humid and full of events I would like to erase from my memory.

I feel like a fried peppercorn at this moment ( thanks Nabs for the word).

Why do people say,” Hey man , sorry I was busy, saw your sms but could not reply.” I often wonder why they don’t have a better excuse than this. Not a moment in the entire day 24 hours, 1440 mints, 8,6400 sec. I think I got it right? anyways .. you got the point na? :(

I think it is just that replying was not of importance to them. that’s it. Relationships these days are taken for granted. Ya but if they want to communicate the reply should be prompt.. hypocrites.

Well this is not the post for ranting.. this is a tag for friends.. esp for those who do are too lethargic or uninterested to do tags.. and for some witty ones who love such things. let us see who comes up with theirs first.

Award For Me … A friend’s loving gesture

honest-scrap

Khushi
tagged me to her post and passed the award to me. It sometimes feels so overwhelming to find such loving friends.

I am supposed to write 10 things about me

1. I am a true Libran so 10 points are slightly insufficient for me to describe myself :0

2. A complete netaddict and compulsive blogger. I have this insatiable hunger for writing and unless I tweet, blog, scrap, mail , my life seems hollow. :D

3. I love nature, travel and am very concerned about the current state of environment , flora and fauna in my country. Especially the poaching and decreasing number of big cats in our tiger reserves.

4. I am a hardcore foodie and die hard chocoholic. Give me some bars of dark bitter chocolate or any other for that matter and a some books to read and you can lock me in the room till the two last.

5. I am scared of flying. very scared :( …Now don’t laugh .. I know it’s stupid but I love planes and speed and all that but I go week in the knees when I have to be part of the game. Hope I am able to get over it soon.

6. There is an inner child in me which very very few people know about. I love to connect with it and let myself go to another world away from the madding crowd. We are the best friends.. inseparable till death do us part.

7. I am a big emo person and get affected by even the slightest things. Good or bad. It really causes me many a heartbreaks but still I can’t let it go.

8. My sons are the biggest gift from the creator to me. I love to see them grow into good human beings and feel that somewhere I have justified my existence on earth by giving them the right direction. It’s another matter that they may not follow it when they leave me..

9. I love snakes, big snakes, spiders, and all such creatures :D .. I think they are mostly sadly misunderstood and people need to be educated about them ..

10. Ghosts, spirits, vampires and all the so called dark creatures are my favorites and I love to read about them maybe do a little planchet sometime. Death does not scare me.. being handicap and dependent does..

Like I said I am still confused if I have done justice to this post may be I should have written more but let me tag a few friends now

Around the world in 80 clicks: 5 things I love about being a Mom

I got tagged by Richajn to do this post about 5things I love about being a mom :) and I thought what an opportunity to attempt this one and tag some evil and some not so evil moms across the globe and see their reactions. It sure will be great fun. It is also my NaBloPoMo post.

I recently won a blogger contest award for mother’s day in which I wrote about my mom and two posts about my own boys and my journey of being a mom. All along I wondered what do I love more being a mom or the feeling of motherhood as such.

Life sure is a bittersweet symphony for moms across the globe, that was one thing that came out from all the other blogs I read.

There are many things which I love about being a mom and twice as many which I hate about being a mom . As I said life is a bitter sweet symphony.

1. The fact that I have two evil companions who are a constant challenge to the testing limits of my endurance is first in the list. I love challenges and my boys never fail to fine a new one for me everyday. Last 18 years have made me a pro and I can easily run a coaching center for new mom’s and wanna be moms. They have helped me sharpen my claws and made me realize how I should use my gut instincts as survival techniques.

2. Chocoholics is the term we use to address ourselves. Being a mom of two chocolate addicts is a blessing in disguise. If you know how to keep your stuff protected from the invaders, you can always get a bite from their share one way or the other. I can always deny my hand in the disappearance of chocolates, cookies and other sinfully desirable stuff. ( am I not glad my boys do not read my blog … evil grin :D )

3. I love the fact that my kids have an identity of their own and are growing up to be individuals who can make their own choices and not depend on mommies to guide them. That’s one responsibility off my shoulder. I hate those grownup boys who tag along their mom’s for their entire life making it so difficult for their wives, GF’s and partners.

4. Thanks to my teenage dudes today I am a store house of knowledge about things I never knew existed. I have discovered cults like emos, goths, punks, I know the latest trends in hair culture and how cool dead locks can be.

There are music genres which I considered noise at one time but follow like religion now all thanks to the deep insight I got through my boys. We listen to Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Heavy metal, pop, reggae and punk rock together and play computer games like delta force and counter strike apart from others. And I thought mine sweep and solitaire was the ultimate.. talk about ignorance …!!!

5. The ultimate thing about being a mom is watching the kids live your own life all over again. I am more of a pal to them and to many of their friends too. It keeps me young in mind, body and soul and my chances of a heart disease are near to zero. We laugh often and though there are times when I feel like letting my evil mom self take over completely, most of the times it is a wonderful feeling to have the boys around. I am sure a daughter would have been an asset but well maybe in next birth.

I know some super moms who would love to do this tag and here goes my shout out to them .
