10 Days You Challenge : Day 4- Three Films

I am not a movie buff but there are certain flicks that I can see over and over. They may be part of the main stream cinema or just a little different. It is difficult to pick just three. I loved Life is beautiful, Behind Enemy lines, Saving Private Ryan and Schindler’s list. There are hundreds of animation movies that I absolutely adore like Finding Nemo, Lion King, Aragon, Happy Feet etc. Then there are musicals and western classics. The list is endless. It is hard but let me select the three that touched my heart.

1. As Good As It Gets : I am a huge fan of Jack Nicholson and loved him as Joker in Batman. Exceptional artist and what a remarkable screen presence the guy has. A very well written and flawlessly directed dark edged romantic comedy. One of the best of its time. The greatest pleasure is the acting of Nicholson. Devilishly cuddly but at the same time in absolute control. He keeps you glued till the last scene. It is a very different role he plays here and the strong chemistry between him and Helen Hunt is exceptional. I like Hunt too. Simple and brilliance personified. My kinda woman. :p

 2. Mackenna’s Gold – When we talk of western classics there are a few films that come to the mind. The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Mackenna’s Gold, Stage Coach, The Magnificent Seven, High Noon Duel in the Sun and many more. I saw Mackenna’s Gold as a teenager and instantly fell in love with Omar Sharif. Gregory Peck of course is all time heart-throb. The cinematography is amazing. Whole film is shot in Grand Canyon a place I would love to visit one day. The music by  Quincy Jones is as always exceptional. The plot revolves around the legend of  a fortune in gold hidden in the “Canyon del Oro,” guarded by the Apache spirits. It is an action packed, colorful film with a beautiful  Jose Feliciano-sung ballad at the beginning of the film, “Old Turkey Buzzard”. The aerial Photography is breathtaking. Though the movie remains one of the weak western one I still love it for the sheer pleasure of its simplicity.

3. Now to our own Bollywood.  Khamoshi is one of my favorite movies. This Rajesh Khanna , Waheeda Rehman starter was a landmark in Indian Cinema. It had a bold plot and a very courageous climax for its time. The inner turmoil of the female protagonist , the love and the dilemma made it an excellent watch. Both the lead actors gave a brilliant performance. This 1969 movie had Waheeda in all her subtle moods and Rajesh too makes one want for more. The heart wrenching story is projected very well and the music is exceptional. Some of the best songs of that time came from this movie like tum pukar lo, wo sham kuch ajeeb thi, hamne dekhi hai in aankhon ki mehkti khushbu etc.

Ravishing Rekha and Legendary Amitabh Bachchan: A Birthday Post

I wanted to do two different posts on Rekha and Amitji but then decided to make it a Birthday Post.  A tribute to two of my favorite Bollywood star icons of all times.

Rekha’s birthday falls on 10th and Amit ji’s on 11th ( Yes he shares his DOB with Me  :D ).

Rekha turned 56 yesterday and Amitji turned 68 today.

I  wish them health , happiness and joy.

Rekha has been one of my favorites because of her remarkable talent and beauty. For me she is the ultimate diva. I loved her simple girl next door look and brilliant performance in Khoobsoorat .

42 years of  her reign in Bollywood were simply magical. I loved Silsila,  Umrao Jaan , Utsav, zubaida and her mesmerizing guest  performance in Parinita .The song ‘Kaisi paheli zindagaani’  had such a nostalgic feel and was, at the same time, so sensuous. The way Rekha carried herself in the song can only be done by an actress of her calibre. She is a perfect blend of beauty, glamour and talent.

I loved her in Umrao Jaan and thought that her performance matched that of Legendary Meena Kumari in Pakeeza . She looked gorgeous in the movie and acted so well. Here is my favorite song from the movie

So many memorable performances and portrayal of different and varied characters shows the range of her acting.

I find her ageless as far as Beauty goes. At 56 she still looks so ravishing. I would call the true face of Indian Beauty and grace.

What can I say about Amitji . He is a star icon and a legend. I loved his early  performances in Chupke Chupke, Mili, Abhiman,  Anand  and then the famous Deewar , silsila, Muqaddar ka Sikandar, Zanjeer, Sholey, Chash- e- baddoor, Agnipath and not to forget Satte pe Satta .. the list is endless.

The Rekha – Amitabh love saga was eternal. I always called them the perfect couple that never was.

They looked great together and their on-screen chemistry was electric.

I won’t call Amitabh a great actor but a great performer.

This song from Silsila  remains my all time favorite . The lyrics are awesome.

The Hrishi Da – Amitabh association gave many great films. Together they changed the face of Indian cinema.

Today I celebrated my birthday  and I would like to thank all my virtual friends for their love and good wishes. The virtual family is my extended family and it really made me warm all over to know that somewhere  somebody thought of me and prayed for my well being.

A big hug and love to everyone  who took some time out to share the joy of  this day with me.

Top Ten Hindi Movie Lines

1. Deewar (1975) Is one of Amitab Bachchan’s best movies and my all time fovorite. The movie had memorable dialouge delivery and deadly perforamces by the leading cast.

Shashi kapoor to Amitabh when he wants him to sign , “Haan, main sign karoonga, lekin main akele sign nahin karoonga, main sabse pehle sign nahin karoonga. Jao pehle us aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne mera baap ko chor kaha tha; pehle us aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne meri maa ko gali deke naukri se nikal diya tha; pehle us aadmi ka sign le ke aao jisne mere haath pe ye leekh diya tha..ye.. Uske BAAD, us ke baad, mere bhai, tum jahan kahoge main wahan sign kar doonga.”

Rajesh Khanna to Amitabh, “

Anand has been one of my favorite movies and each dialogue is power packed. The one above is the path breaking one. One of the best.

3. Waqt

Raj Kumar had a unique style of dialogue delivery, there are many of his famous lines which I like  but this one from Waqt is best.

“Yeh bachchon ke khelne kee cheez nahin, haath kat jaye to khoon nikal aata hai”

4. Vishwanath

Shatrughan Sinha‘s dialogues are evergreen and this one from Vishwanath is my favorite since childhood.

“Jali ko aag kahte hain, bujhi ko raakh kahte hain, jis raakh se barood bane usey Vishwanath kahte hain.“

5.Trishul

Amitabh,

“Sahi baat sahi waqt pe kiya jaye to uska maza hi kuch aur hai, Aur main sahi waqt ka intezaar karta hoon.“

9. Rang De Basanti

I loved Amir as DJ in RDB, the movies was worth a second watch and the dialogues worth remembering.
